Finally someone points out the flaws of our search for political support. Whilst the efforts of everyone have been highly commendable, seeking support from existing and possible future politicians, this approach can only give one of two likely outcomes. 1) They will all give us evasive lip service but nothing more. (They only have to keep us happy until after the election, get our votes and then they can forget us again.) OR 2) Using promises that we have to hope they will keep, they will hope to get us to vote for parties that we find, as individuals, unconscionable. This will result in our strength being dissipated (some will not vote for whichever party we select, no matter what they promise us) and thus we will no longer be unified. This situation would erode our overall effectiveness. The only effective way to really apply pressure on these career politicians, is to hit them in their comfort zone. To have people threaten their individual seats on a one off basis, whilst an annoyance, does not cause the power brokers within the parties a great deal of concern. If however, we threaten their long term power base by establishing a credible party, we can have some real impact. WE MUST ESTABLISH OUR OWN PARTY NOW AND LET THEM KNOW THAT WE ARE DETERMINED TO FORCE THEM TO PAY ATTENTION. Establishing our own party will force them to try to protect their positions of privilege in power by either; a) Trying to defeat our party by removing our support base. This could only be achieved by creating a line in the sand, and if so we will have won even if they do stop us having elected representatives. OR b) Trying to defeat our candidates in the federal election which, if united, our sheer weight of numbers should make very difficult if not impossible. Provided we go about the campaign in the right way, we should be able to attract strong support in all states. Remember it is not only our cause that the ATO has dealt unfairly with. Keeping this in mind, I believe that we could attract sufficient support to gain representation Australia wide. I propose that we establish a party called AUSTRALIANS for FAIR GOVERNMENT (The Fair Go Party). Despite the sort of apprehension and indeed, in some cases loathing that many Australians have for Ms Hanson's One Nation Party, they are still able to have a significant electoral impact. What more evidence do we need to see to realize that Australians are crying out for a new fairer political party. Instead of trying to get these self-serving, short sighted and indeed narrow minded organizations to support us let's break their strangle-hold and give Australians what they need and deserve. Remember we would place ourselves in a win-win situation. Either the other parties will take up our case with real zeal, so that they can protect their own political power, or we will defeat them electorally. To establish a political party the Electoral Commission demands three things from us: 1) We must have 500 members signed up. I am told, by the Electoral Commission that our membership roles must contain members' names and addresses and contact numbers. This is to allow the Electoral Commission the opportunity to verify that we do in fact have 500 genuine members. These members must all be eligible voters at the time of membership. 2) We are also required to have a constitution which we must lodge with them. 3) The third and final step in this process of registering a legitimate political party is that we must submit an acceptable party name and "nickname". The Electoral Commission informs me that the process of registration of a new political party generally takes approximately six weeks from the time of application lodgement. TIME IS RUNNING OUT WE MUST START NOW ! As well as our legal requirements we would also need to develop a party platform and policy. Once we have met our legal requirements and formed a genuine political party, we are eligible for reimbursement of electoral expenses either, whole or in part, by achieving 1% or more of the vote in seats that we contest. Obviously we can expect the ATO to look less than favorably on anyone establishing a party to curtail their renegade ways. However they have already threatened many of us with financial obliteration, what else do they have left. I for one am prepared to stand up to them by actively participating in forming this new party and running for office with a policy of bringing them to account. I am not a member of any current political party nor have I been for the better part of 20 years. This criteria plus one of no member of this party can stand for election representing this party if they have all ready served 2 full terms in that house of parliament. Hopefully this would prevent us electing any self-serving career politicians. The biggest obstacle for most politicians standing up for what they believe in seems to be a desire to get re-elected. WE MUST ACT NOW OR IT WILL BE TO LATE No-one else will do our job for us, we must do it ourselves. I for one, do not wish to gamble my (or my nation's) financial future, on half-hearted promises of career politicians seeking to preserve their perks and self-decreed right to rule.
